Customer Review: I ask myself
Is it possible that this system of stars actually is being corrupted by rival companies’ employees that put one star to every product of this company (even doing copy/paste with their reviews)?

I mean, I own a lot of hard drives (Seagate, Toshiba, WD, Fujitsu, Maxtor), some of them have more than 13 years, and none of them have crashed or nothing alike… Well, except one that took a fall from my hands.

I’m kinda suspicious, because with this rate of supposedly sucky hard drives (and the horrible publicity it carries), WD should have gone broke years ago.
Customer Review: Own 4 of them. 3 have failed
In over 20 years of buying drives from every manufacturer on the planet, these drives and this company are the worst I have ever seen. I bought 4 of them long time ago, and 2 failed in the first year. Awful drives, lame company. I am a Seagate man now (again) and I’m quite happy :) Buy Here

Customer Review: Extremely Impressed
I received the WD My Book for Christmas. I will primarily be using to store pictures, and I have been extremely impressed. It is really user friendly. I would recommend it!
Customer Review: Flawed usb design?
There are a couple major gotchas with this mybook.

1. The USB port somehow struggles to remain connected. It recognizes the device and then loses connection. Is the same hooking up to the motherboard direct or via a USB-hub.

2. When booting up windows XP (older versions pre-SP2) the OS may stall and take an unbelievably long time to come up if this USB device is connected to the machine. I tried this on an Abit and Tyan motherboard with the same issue. So plug this in only after the OS has booted up.

3. Performance is mediocre even for a USB device. I really think the harddrive is underutilized.

4. To make sure this device works better, you are better off plugging it to the wall. Don’t plug it into a powerstripe, even if you have a great one. I am still wondering why this matters?? But it does. Buy Here

Customer Review: Best I could find for the WD Passport
The construction is solid and quite durable. It looks nice. I gave it 4 stars because the carabiner seems unnecessary and it is larger than it needs to be by more than a quarter inch in all directions, such that the WD passport slops around more than I would like. I think it is the best of what is out there, but it could be better. Buy Here

All captured in digital photos and video. What could be more important? Store them safely and keep them backed up on My Book Home Edition external hard drives.
Customer Review: Great back-up tool - works with Time machine.
I purchased this hard drive mostly for back-up purposes and chose this particular one for it’s size and firewire connection. I did not use the included software since this drive is connected to a Mac using “Time Machine” software but I can say that “Time machine” is quite compatible with this drive. I have had no problems with this drive within the first week. Do yourself a favor and buy sheilded cables, don’t depend on the cheap cables the drive comes with.
Customer Review: Excellent drive, but take care with the setup
The WD My Book Home Edition (320gb) is an excellent drive and the hardware has given me no problems. It runs very quietly, it is well vented and so does not heat up, it turns on and off (smartly) either with its own power button or when the computer is powered on and off, and it offers firewire, eSATA, and USB connections. The caveat here is the software that comes with the drive. The drive I purchased was new but was built six months ago, and the free backup software was an older version that is very buggy with Vista. (Note, there is a Product Key for the software on the white installation sheet that you’ll need to enter at setup.) The software (MEMEO) website was not at all helpful in handling the problems I encountered. But MEMEO customer service was superb. A technician responded quickly to an e-mail, precisely diagnosed the problem, and provided clear directions for removing the older version and installing (at no cost) the most current version. The current version works very well, and automatically backs up files seamlessly. One other note on setup. The drive comes formatted with FAT32. That’s fine if your files are no bigger than 4gb. But if you want to save a larger file (e.g., a video file), you’ll need to reformat the drive with NTFS, and you might as well do that at the beginning because you’ll lose all the data on the drive when you reformat. At the same time you also may want to partition the drive, to isolate different kinds of files from one another. The backup software allows you to create different “plans” for this purpose. Happily, the Western Digital telephone support (free for 30 days) was very helpful in walking me through the process. Buy Here

1TB Av Gp Sata II 3.5IN

With power reduction of up to 40%, they deliver cool and quiet operation and reliability perfect for audio video applications such as PVRs, DVRs, Set-Top Boxes (STBs) as well as surveillance video recording.
Customer Review: Great Drive For a TIVO S3 Upgrade
I used this drive to upgrade my Tivo S3 High Definition DVR. I was very impressed by how quiet this drive is. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a quiet drive for your Tivo HD upgrade. This drive is made for DVR recording and they did a great job!

I would not recommend this drive for regular PC use. It was built to run quiet and cool for DVR use.
Also this is a OEM drive. It comes in a box with nothing else. No cables no screws no manuals, nothing except the drive itself. If you need all the mounting stuff and manuals you need to purchase the retail version. This is true with most all Hard Drives.
Customer Review: As advertised
This drive is very quiet and is the second one I have purchased; the first one went into my Tivo Series 3 and has been 100% reliable. Buy Here
