I have used a couple of these Portable HDDs in the past and everyone of them are still in great shape, and serve their purpose very well. Another nice point to bring up is they do not require a power cable, they are powered by the USB connection.

Customer Review: Great hard drive!
2.5-inch EIDE Hard Drives 100 GB, 100 MB/s, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM

From experience Western Digital has been a great and reliable and I like the features that the WD Scorpio has:

Fast and efficient - Spins at 5400 RPM for fast performance but has power specs similar to slower 4200 RPM drives. Low power consumption yields increased reliability.

Quiet - WD’s exclusive WhisperDrive” technology with SoftSeek” algorithms make this the quietest 2.5-inch hard drive, regardless of spin speed.

Reliable - WD’s ShockGuard” technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD’s DuraStep Ramp” locks the heads in a secure position away from the disk to provide another layer of protection when the drive is not in use. Utilizing the most technologically advanced material available, the drive can perform a minimum of 600,000 load/unload cycles without contamination - up to twice the performance of its competitors.

Rugged - WD Scorpio’s rigid stainless steel top cover withstands more than 5 pounds of pressure - nearly 1.5 times the industry average - without pinching vital internal components.

It was easy to install and replaced an 40GB which had replaced another 40GB drive that had failed, both where non-western digital hard drive. And the WD has been great. Buy Here

Customer Review: horible to work with
I bought this poduct a few months ago and still having problems with it. I could not transfer any file over 150GB with out it crashing and stoping. I had to turn it off and on to get it to reboot. It is slow in the search for anything on the disk you are looking for. evertime i want to use it it is down so i have to restart and reboot the drive at least twice a dayI i paid full price for it and hate it. I am ready to keep all the info on my computer for the network I have set up. Will try to find something better. i do not recomend this to anyone.

Customer Review: Works great!
This is my 3rd MyBook external HD and it improves on the performance and space of my other versions. The person who gave it a negative review either has a bad drive (it happens) or did not re-format the drive to NTFS. It does take a bit of time to format to NTFS (about 1 hour and 30 minutes), however it is worth it for you have a faster more efficient hard drive. Buy Here

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

Some hard drive companies design desktop-class drives with the Serial ATA (SATA) interface. To meet the demands of enterprise storage, WD is going one better. Western Digital is the only company combining an enterprise-class mechanical platform with the SATA interface to meet all the demands of the enterprise environment - reliability, performance, and reduced cost.
Customer Review: Raptors going the way of the dinosaur?
I’ve been reading lately about solid state disc(SSD) drives making their way to the consumer market. With no moving parts they would be much more quite then the drives we use now, are super fast, but they also cost their weight in gold. A 32GB SanDisk SSD drive will run you over a grand! Until those prices drop I’ll stick with a hard disc drive, thank you very much! :D

As far as the Raptor goes I couldn’t be happier with its performance. The price isn’t bad and the read/write times are impressive. Right now I’m only running one of these but in the near future plan on running a dual boot system and using two of these for the OS’s and essential programs. My 2x TB drives will hold all my movies and other media.(Hi-Def media really eats up the HD space quickly, I still remember when a Gig was a ton of space!)

One of Vistas touted features is ReadyBoost or using a jump drive, but when you have a Raptor theres no need. I saw no noticeable improvement in access times when using ReadyBoost, the 4GB Corsair Voyager GT actually seemed slower than when using the Raptor.

While the Raptors are far from silent(Samsungs Spinpoint drives are very quiet!) I wouldn’t say they are loud. My Liteon DVD drive is much noisier then my Raptor so I have no complaints. I’m hoping in the future WD releases larger than 150GB drives so I can just use them in place of 7200RPM drives, time will tell. While the price premium of a 10kRPM drive wont appeal to everyone, I think the small increase is worth it to enthusiasts looking to squeeze every last bit of performance out of their setup. Recommended!
Customer Review: +Fast drive+all black,sleak…-bit noisy…-pricy-,only sata-150
I have 2 of these in RAID-0, they literally saturate the sata-1 bus @ 150mbps. Would of been better if these drives support SATA-II at the time they were released…Can get rather noisy in a quiet environment (sounds like some slugs in a plasticbox being shaked) when heavily accessed..but atleast the audible frequencies are in the lower spectrum and doesn’t have the high pitch sound that comes from my 15,000 rpm SCSI Seagate Cheetah, which is much slower than this although made since 2000. Don’t go for the raptor-X infront of this one, as that one has a lower MTBF, is more audible (due to the special cover), and is entirely more expensive, unless that’s what you want ofcourse. They are otherwise, identical in performance. Buy Here
